In last night's excellent Newswipe, Charlie Brooker:
First he deconstructed last week's TV News coverage of the Islam4UK's proposed march in Wotton Bassett and revealed it is a classic mini moral panic based on what may well have been a very effective publicity stunt. It fits in very well with sociological notions of 'claims makers' and 'moral entrepreneurs'. He made compelling case that by ramping up this story, which had massive moral indigination value, serious racial undertones, the TV news editorial teams threw out any sense of measured coverage.
Secondly he made a hysterical lampoon of the basic TV reporter news package, that left one with a feeling that the whole process is now so formulaic that it seriously needs rethinking.
Its episode two series two.

Blog Link - Martin Belam: 'What is the value of Linked Data to the news industry?'
Last week I went to a "News Linked Data Summit", organised by The Guardian, the Media Standards Trust, and the BBC. As part of the day I gave a presentation entitled 'What is the value of linked data to the news industry?'. Here is a transcript of my talk.
A detail from Richard Cyganiak and Anja Jentzsch's Linking Open Data dataset cloud diagram.
Almost every talk about Linked Data I've seen inevitably at some point shows the 'linked data' universe bubble diagram. Every time I see it, it has grown in size. However, the first time I saw it, I noticed a glaring omission. None of our major UK print-based news organisations featured on it, and that fact is yet to change.to read more: http://www.guardian.co.uk/help/insideguardian/2010/jan/25/news-linked-data-summit
