From 1st September 2009 Paul joined the staff at Brunel University as a lecturer in journalism. He will is part of the research team in journalism and teacheson Brunel University's MA and BA courses.

Learning & Teaching Fellowship from University College Falmouth to investigate the e-learning with special regard to the use of audio and video tools for the delivery of distance and blended pedagogy and use on VLEs. Paul was a panellist and delivered the paper 'Investigative Journalism: a case for intensive care?' at the 'Journalism in Crisis' conference. The paper examines trends in UK investigative journalism and looks at possible solutions to the funding investigative journalism funding

A part-time staff member on the MA Broadcast Journalism course at University College Falmouth from 2001 - 2009. I was part of a team that developed the course from a PgDip to multi strand vocational Broadcast Journalism MA (validated April 2006).
I ran the MA Broadcast Investigative Journalism strand. The first two graduates were awarded distinctions in January 2007.
I was also part of a team that developed and launched a MA in International Journalism (validated April 2006). A unique feature is the inclusion of a hostile environment training package.


"Western Journalists and China in 2008"
Working with Professor Ivor Gaber, Paul toured China in August 2007 organising two day seminars for Chinese journalists and information officers in Beijing, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Nanjing. The courses were a joint partnership between University of Westminster's China Media Centre and Tshinghau University and funded by the British Embassy in Beijing.
The courses were designed to prepare Chinese media professionals for the arrival of the Western media in the Beijing 2008 Olympic year. Hosted by Professor Li Xiguang, Executive Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication of Tsinghua University, they were attended by many senior journalists and government information officials.

Since 1984 I have given many lectures on journalism at media schools including City University and London College of Communications over the last twenty years. Also lectures on historical research at Kingston University, the Institute of Contemporary British History, Leicester University, Queen Mary and Westfield College, Nottingham University and the University of Birmingham. I have also written a number of research papers for historical conferences.
